3 Days in Nagoya: An Itinerary for Ghibli Park, LEGOLAND and the City

Nagoya is a good base for a short trip. Within about an hour you can reach a castle, a Toyota museum, a railway museum, LEGOLAND Japan and Ghibli Park. The difficulty is not distance. It is closing days, fixed ticket dates and entry times. This itinerary puts the days with fixed dates first, and leaves the flexible ones to fit around them.

Key takeaways

  • Day 2 is the Ghibli Park day, because its ticket date and the Grand Warehouse entry time are fixed.
  • The Toyota museum is closed on Mondays and the SCMAGLEV and Railway Park on Tuesdays, so choose by weekday.
  • Use one hotel near Nagoya Station as your base. All the sights connect from there.
  • Buy Ghibli Park tickets first. They go on sale two months ahead on the 10th, and cannot be changed or refunded.
  • With young children, choose LEGOLAND Japan for Day 3, and consider the on-site hotel.
Closing days and hours of the main sights

Before you plan the days

  • Fix the Ghibli Park date first. Tickets for a month go on sale two months earlier, at 14:00 Japan time on the 10th. See our buying guide and the Premium vs Standard guide.
  • Book a hotel near Nagoya Station. See our hotel guide. If you arrive by air, read the Centrair guide.
  • Look at the weekdays. Then place the Toyota museum and the Railway Park on days they are open.

Day 1: Nagoya Castle and the city

  • Nagoya Castle. Open 9:00 to 16:30, with last entry at 16:00. The main keep cannot be entered at the moment, but the Honmaru Palace and the grounds are open. Fees changed on October 1, 2026, so check the official page. See the castle guide.
  • Evening. Try the local food. Our Nagoya meshi guide explains what to order.

This is a relaxed first day, which suits jet lag and gives you time to settle in.

Day 2: Ghibli Park

  • Start early. The first direct Meitetsu bus leaves Nagoya Station at 8:20 on weekdays and 7:55 on weekends and holidays, according to the official page. The bus is cashless.
  • Plan around your Grand Warehouse time. You must enter within one hour after your chosen time, and early entry is not allowed.
  • Other areas. You can enter from opening until 16:30. The park closes at 17:00.
  • Premium wristbands. Pick up your wristband by 12:00.

See the access guide and the rules and tips guide. If your date is sold out, read our Plan B guide.

Day 3: LEGOLAND Japan or the Railway Park at Kinjofuto

Both are at Kinjofuto Station, about 24 minutes from Nagoya Station on the Aonami Line.

  • LEGOLAND Japan suits families with children. Buy tickets online in advance. See the ticket guide and the rules guide.
  • SCMAGLEV and Railway Park is a good choice for rail fans, and it fits in a half day. Do not go on a Tuesday. See the Railway Park guide.

If you have a fourth day

The Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology is a short walk from Sako Station on the Meitetsu line, and it is closed on Mondays. See the Toyota museum guide.

If you have only two days

Day Plan
1 Ghibli Park
2 LEGOLAND Japan, or Nagoya Castle with a Nagoya meshi dinner

If you travel with young children

LEGOLAND Japan can fill a whole day. The on-site LEGOLAND Japan Hotel keeps you close to the park. Our hotel guide lists the official details.

Tips

  • Check the weekday for every sight. Closing days are the easiest way to lose a day.
  • Weekdays are quieter at LEGOLAND Japan than during Golden Week or the school holidays, in my experience.
  • Keep the Ghibli day flexible. The park has closed or restricted entry for typhoons and earthquakes, and tickets cannot be changed.
