Last checked: October 11, 2026, against the official Ghibli Park website. Rules can change, so please confirm on the official Ghibli Park website before you go. This post may contain affiliate links; if you book through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

Key takeaways

  • No changes, refunds or reissues. ID may be checked, so bring your passport.
  • Grand Warehouse: no early entry, and you must enter within one hour after your time.
  • Premium wristbands must be picked up by 12:00. Other areas can be entered until 16:30.
  • Check the official news page for closures. Rides and workshops cost extra.

Ghibli Park is unusual among Japanese attractions because the rules are strict and the details matter. A few small mistakes, such as arriving late for a timed entry or assuming you can change your date, can cost you a full day of your trip.

Here is a practical list of the rules and tips to know before you go. If you have not bought tickets yet, start with our step-by-step purchase guide.

Timeline of the key times in a Ghibli Park day

Ticket rules

  • No changes and no refunds. Date, time, ticket type and quantity cannot be changed or refunded once you buy. Lost, damaged or stolen tickets are not reissued.
  • Non-transferable. Purchases for resale or transfer, including gifts, are strictly prohibited. Purchasing tickets on behalf of other visitors is prohibited.
  • Bring your passport. You may be randomly selected to show identification at entry, and the person whose name is on the tickets must be present.
  • No tickets at the entrance. The only exception is the same-day tickets for three buildings in Valley of Witches.
  • Up to 6 tickets at a time, and each ticket type can be purchased once per month.

If you are choosing between ticket types, see our Premium vs Standard comparison.

Entering as a group

Everyone in your party must enter together with the person whose name is on the ticket. The details differ by ticket:

  • Premium: all members must be present before entering the first area and Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse. Other areas can be entered individually by showing your wristband.
  • Standard: enter with all members of your party present.
  • Wristbands: with Premium, you receive a wristband when your QR code is checked at your first area. Wristband pickup must be completed by 12:00 on the day of your visit.
  • Children aged 0 to 3 enter free and are not counted as a member of the party.

Timed entry for the Grand Warehouse

Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse requires you to choose an entry time when you buy: 9:00 (only on days when the park opens at 9:00), 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00 or 14:00.

  • Early entry is not allowed.
  • You must enter no later than one hour after your reservation time.
  • Re-entry to the Grand Warehouse is possible only after 15:00.

Other areas have no assigned time. Enter from opening until 16:30. Expect to wait in line when it is busy. Hill of Youth and Dondoko Forest are expected to be very crowded after 16:00 until closing at 17:00, so the official page recommends visiting them in the morning or early afternoon.

Opening hours and special days

Hours can vary, so check the official news page before you go. On October 30, 2026, Valley of Witches and Mononoke Village stay open later than usual. Always check the official news page for the date of your visit.

Weather and closures

The park has issued entry restrictions and temporary closures for typhoons, earthquakes, heavy rain and transport disruptions. In 2026 it was also closed from June 9 to June 23. Because tickets are non-refundable, it is worth planning for this:

  • Check the official news page on the morning of your visit.
  • Consider travel insurance, and check what it covers for event cancellations.
  • Avoid booking a flight home on the night of your Ghibli Park day, if you can.
  • Some facilities may not be available in the rain, including Lord Okkoto in Mononoke Village, the walking trail in Dondoko Forest, and the Carousel and Flying Machine in Valley of Witches.

What costs extra

Admission covers the areas on your ticket, but a few things are charged separately:

  • Interactive workshops at Tatara-ba (Mononoke Village)
  • The Carousel and the Flying Machine (Valley of Witches)
  • Okino Residence, Howl’s Castle and The House of Witches, if you have a Standard ticket (included with Premium)

What to expect

  • It is a park for walking, exploring and taking photos. There are a few paid rides, such as the Carousel and the Flying Machine.
  • Some facilities are limited to children aged 12 and under: the Cat Bus Room, Children’s Town (Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse), and Dondoko-do (Dondoko Forest).
  • Photography: secondary sources report that photography is restricted in some indoor areas. Follow the signs and staff instructions, and check the official rules for what is allowed.
  • The park is large and outdoors. Wear comfortable shoes, bring weather protection, and watch for heat stroke in summer.
  • Plan for most of a day if you have a Premium ticket and want to see every area. The official page recommends planning your route in advance.

Getting there

There is no dedicated Ghibli Park parking lot. The park is inside Expo 2005 Aichi Memorial Park. The Linimo train and the direct Meitetsu bus are the main options, and the listed bus routes are cashless demonstration routes. See our access guide for details.
