Chubu Centrair International Airport, usually called Centrair, is the main airport for Nagoya and central Japan. The train to the city is simple once you know one thing: there are two kinds of trains, and one of them needs an extra ticket. This guide explains the difference, and how to plan your first day after landing.
Key takeaways
- The Meitetsu Airport Line runs from the airport to Meitetsu Nagoya Station.
- The μSKY is the fastest train. Every car is first class, so you need a μticket of 450 yen on top of your fare.
- Limited Express and other trains need only your regular ticket in the ordinary cars. Cars 1 and 2 on Limited Express are first class.
- The μSKY boards from platform 1. Other trains board from platform 2 or 3.
- Ghibli Park has a shuttle from the airport. Check the Meitetsu Bus website for times.

The two kinds of trains
According to the official Meitetsu page:
| μSKY | Limited Express and others | |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | 1 | 2 or 3 |
| Cars | All first class | Cars 1 and 2 are first class on Rapid Limited Express and Limited Express |
| Extra ticket | μticket, 450 yen | μticket only for the first-class cars |
| Wi-Fi | Free Meitetsu Wi-Fi | Free on Rapid Limited Express and Limited Express |
The μticket is 450 yen, and it is the same price regardless of age. You buy it in addition to your regular ticket.
How to buy tickets
- At the station. Tickets and μtickets are sold to the left of the ticket gate.
- Online. First class seats can be reserved online through Meitetsu.
- IC cards. If you use a transit IC card for your fare, you still need the μticket for first-class cars.
The travel time and fare to Meitetsu Nagoya Station are shown in a table on the official page. The table is an image, so please read them there or use the timetable search on the Meitetsu site.
Which train should you take?
- Take the μSKY if you want the fastest ride and a guaranteed seat in a first-class car, and you are happy to pay the 450 yen.
- Take a Limited Express or another train if you prefer to pay only the regular fare. Sit in the ordinary cars.
Neither choice changes where you end up. Both go to Meitetsu Nagoya Station.
