A rainy day does not have to ruin a Nagoya trip. The city has several large indoor attractions, and most are a short subway or train ride from Nagoya Station. This guide pulls them together in one place, with the facts that matter on a wet day: what each place is, what it costs, when it is closed, and how to get there. Each section links to our full guide.

Key takeaways

  • For families, the best indoor choices are the Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium, the Nagoya Science Museum and the SCMAGLEV and Railway Park.
  • For culture, try the Tokugawa Art Museum. For cars and machines, try the Toyota Automobile Museum and the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology.
  • Many of these are closed on Mondays. The SCMAGLEV and Railway Park is closed on Tuesdays instead.
  • Check the closing days first. A wet Monday is the hardest day to plan.

Easy plans for a wet day

These are our suggestions, not official routes. Check the closing days for your date.

  • Family day. Aquarium in the morning, then the subway back toward the center for lunch. Use a day ticket if you will ride more than a few times. See our transport guide.
  • Toyota day. The Toyota Commemorative Museum and the Toyota Automobile Museum, using the combined 1,800 yen ticket. Both are closed on Mondays.
  • Short day in the center. The Science Museum for a few hours, because it is only one subway stop from Nagoya Station.
  • Art day. The Tokugawa Art Museum, and allow 60 to 90 minutes inside.

Practical tips

  • Bring a compact umbrella or a rain jacket.
  • Last entry is earlier than closing time at these places. For example, the aquarium stops entry one hour before closing, and the Science Museum’s last admission is at 4:30 pm.
  • If you have never used the Nagoya subway, read our Nagoya transport guide first.
