Where to Stay in Nagoya for Ghibli Park, LEGOLAND and the City Sights
Last checked: October 15, 2026, against the official websites of the attractions and the LEGOLAND Japan Hotel. Hotel conditions and prices change, so please confirm before you book. Ghibli Park, LEGOLAND Japan, the SCMAGLEV and Railway Park, the Toyota museum and Nagoya Castle are all in different directions from the city center. The good news is that they all connect to the same place: Nagoya Station. Choosing where to sleep is mostly a question of how much of the trip you spend on trains.
Key takeaways
- For most trips, stay near Nagoya Station. The Ghibli Park bus, the Aonami Line to LEGOLAND Japan, and the Meitetsu line to the Toyota museum all start there.
- Ghibli Park is about 40 minutes from Nagoya Station (secondary source), and LEGOLAND Japan about 24 minutes.
- On LEGOLAND days with young children, the LEGOLAND Japan Hotel saves the trip back to the city.
- Plan around closing days: the Toyota museum is closed on Mondays and the SCMAGLEV and Railway Park on Tuesdays.
- Ghibli Park tickets cannot be changed or refunded, so choose a flexible hotel rate for that night.

Option 1: near Nagoya Station
This is the best base for most visitors, because every sight in our guides is easy to reach from here.
- Ghibli Park. The direct Meitetsu bus leaves from the Meitetsu Bus Center at Nagoya Station. The official page lists the first departure as 8:20 on weekdays and 7:55 on weekends and holidays. You can also take the Higashiyama Line to Fujigaoka and change to the Linimo. See our access guide.
- LEGOLAND Japan and the SCMAGLEV and Railway Park. The Aonami Line runs from Nagoya Station to Kinjofuto Station, about 24 minutes. See our LEGOLAND access guide.
- Toyota museum. The museum is 3 minutes on foot from Sako Station on the Meitetsu Nagoya Line. See our Toyota museum guide.
- Nagoya Castle. The nearest subway stations are Nagoyajo on the Meijo Line and Sengencho on the Tsurumai Line. See our Nagoya Castle guide.
Because everything starts from one station, you can change the order of your days without changing hotels. For subway and bus tickets, see our guide to getting around Nagoya.
If you are arriving by air, see our Centrair Airport to Nagoya guide for the trains and the μSKY ticket.
Option 2: LEGOLAND Japan Hotel
If LEGOLAND Japan is the main reason for your trip and you are traveling with young children, the official on-site hotel can make the days easier. These details are from the hotel’s official FAQ:
- Check-in and check-out. Check-in is at 16:00 and check-out at 11:00. Late departure and early arrival are available for a fee, depending on occupancy.
- Breakfast. Breakfast is included in all plans, and is served as a buffet on the second floor.
- Rooms. The rooms are themed. Themed and Premium rooms sleep 2 adults and 2 children, and Premium Plus and Suite rooms sleep 2 adults and 3 children.
- Park tickets. Packages include a combo 2 Day Pass, which you collect at the hotel reception from the morning of arrival.
- Luggage. You can leave luggage in the luggage room the day before check-in or after check-out.
- Parking. The hotel has no dedicated parking. It uses Kinjo Futo Parking, and cars can drive to the lobby for luggage drop-off.
- Water play. The official site says the hotel has no pool of its own. There is a children’s water play area on the first floor, and it needs a reservation.
Cancellation. The official FAQ lists these fees: 100 percent when you cancel one day before arrival, 50 percent for 2 to 7 days before, and 20 percent for 8 to 20 days before. A Flexible Booking option can be bought up to 21 days before arrival. Please read the current policy before you book.
See our LEGOLAND Japan ticket guide for ticket prices and rules.
Option 3: central Nagoya for the castle and food
If you want to spend your evenings in the city center, a hotel in central Nagoya works well for the castle and for dining. Check the map for the nearest subway line, since the Meijo Line stops at Nagoyajo Station for the castle. The trade-off is a longer trip to Kinjofuto and Ghibli Park, so this suits visits that focus on the city.
Hotels to compare
These three hotels are listed on Klook (affiliate links). I have not stayed at them, so this is not a review. The details are as listed on Klook on October 18, 2026, including Klook’s guest ratings. Rates change by date, so enter your dates on the booking page and compare them with other sites.
The Marriott is also the meeting point for a Ghibli Park day tour that we mention in our Plan B guide.
A sample plan with one base
This plan uses a hotel near Nagoya Station and allows for the closing days.
| Day | Plan | Check before you go |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Nagoya Castle, then the city | Closed December 29 to January 1 |
| 2 | Ghibli Park | Entry time for the Grand Warehouse. Tickets cannot be changed |
| 3 | LEGOLAND Japan, or the SCMAGLEV and Railway Park | The Railway Park is closed on Tuesdays |
| 4 | Toyota museum | Closed on Mondays |
If you add the Toyota museum or the Railway Park, check the weekday so you do not arrive on a closing day.
My tips from staying
These are personal experiences, so conditions may change.
- Staying at the LEGOLAND Japan Hotel secures a place in the water play area. When I stayed there, I received a ticket that guaranteed my entry. Check the current conditions with the hotel.
- The hotel’s water play area suits small children, but the time is short. It needs a reservation.
- Weekdays are much quieter at the park than during Golden Week or the school holidays.
Booking tips
- Check the cancellation terms. Ghibli Park tickets are non-refundable, and the park has closed for typhoons and earthquakes. A flexible rate gives you room to adjust.
- Count the luggage. If you change hotels during the trip, a luggage room or forwarding service can save time. Ask the hotel when you book.
- Book early for peak periods such as Golden Week and the school holidays.
